lomography

Hello BB!

Tomorrow's a big day (apparently)! It's going to be my birthday and although I should be happy, I have to confess that since I celebrated my 20th birthday, I tend to spend my birthdays kind of feeling depressed. I'm still child-like when it's opening-gifts time, time to blow the candles, to feel embraced by the warm hugs of my friends and have a huge slice of my birthday cake though. However, this year, I won't have my closest friends and family hugs and that's what I'll miss the most. Anyway, I am making an effort to be positive - hopefully tomorrow will be a good day and I will be all smiles and laughs, right? :)

Regarding yesterday preview post, my passion for lomography and photography in general started long ago, with my brother. He is a photography-lover and since I remember "us", he has always traveled a lot and would bring really cool pictures of his adventurous trips around Europe with his friends. These amazing photos would drag me into all those exciting places, making me dream and imagine all he had been through in Amsterdam, Rome or Berlin. When I got my iPhone I started buying all the available lomography/photography applications, and it didn't take much time till me and Mr. Bubbly decided to start a collection of Dianas, Lomos, Polaroids, Holgas, Fisheyes, La Sardinas, Super 8 and so on, so on, so on, since both of us are into photography...

Regarding this model, our Diana F+ is a special Japanese edition camera, which is covered in a lovely white and beige cloth. That's why it looks kind of different from the plastic Diana we are all used to seeing at stores. This one was bought at Urban Outfitters, but I would say the best place to buy these sort of items would be at the Lomography Gallery Store (I usually go to the East London one, but there is another one at Newburgh Street). You can also buy these cameras online. The best website to buy new cameras is probably the official Lomography one.

And that's it! I will select some of our photos and share them with you in a future post, promise! Do you like lomography as well?

Changing topics, just have a look at the British Fashion Awards last night winners!:) You can check it on the following website. Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen won the most important award: British Fashion Designer of the Year. What do you think? Was it fair?

Just to finish, what is your opinion on the Marni's collaboration with H&M for the following spring collection? You can check all the info about it by reading this site. Personally, I am very happy with it. I love the brand, its unique and colourful patterns, its relaxed and effortless elegance, its baggy still chic dresses and tops, its amazing colour mixes.

Have a lovely day!

A vencedora do prémio British Fashion Designer of the Year foi Sarah Burton para Alexander McQueen.

Aproveitem o resto do dia!

shopping frenzy (3)

This time... vintage jewelry, and as I unveiled yesterday, bought at the weekend, at Portobello Market.

So, let's start with vintage earrings, one of my dearest passions.

You have already seen this pair of earrings in my previous post. I find them perfect to go with a dress or to just add some extra glamour to an outfit.

I simply fell in love with these. They look so irresistibly retro! Also they can go with most colours and give a personal touch to a simple outfit. They can also work as statement earrings.

I'm absolutely sure your opinion on these isn't going to be unanimous . I personally like them because of the colour contrast and size. I think they will look lovely with a sophisticated hairdo.

It's time for necklaces now! I was ever so glad with the results of this shopping afternoon. Aren't these the cutest things?

If I had to define this necklace I would have to say: shiny, but elegant. My mother used to have a similar one when I was little and I remember wearing it sometimes when she wasn't around. Yes, Mum, I plead guilty.:)

This is the last vintage piece of jewelry I bought on saturday and I am so in love with it. I'd say it's one of my favourites from my necklace collection. It can go with a posh dress, with an elegant black turtleneck top. Just can't wait to wear it!

As I had already told you before, Portobello Market (Notting Hill) is one of the best if you're into vintage jewelry. If you're interested, bring your wallet and start buying! There's plenty of variety!

Have a great evening!

crime scene... again

Yesterday at night we went out with some friends. The initial idea was basically having a pleasant dinner in Camden  (@ the Portuguese restaurant Tino's, of course), watching the Portuguese derby Benfica - Sporting, and finally enjoying the London night at one of the bars around there. It all went well, and we had a wonderful night. I would ever be so glad to share the night photos with you, but we didn't take any, unfortunately.

However, we're living in London and here, dear friends, there is no such thing as a USUAL night. NOOOOOO, we have no routines (apart from work routines)! Something weird has to happen somehow somewhere or it wouldn't be London! Actually, here, "routine" is synonym for "WEIRDNESS", I just figured out.

So, me and Mr. Bubbly went home at around midnight and were intending to go home by tube (Camden Town Station). When we arrived there, there were ambulances everywhere, the police apparatus was huuuge and the tube gates were closed for the night. The first thing that came across my mind was "God, somebody was murdered... AGAAAAAIN!" (I'll later explain you the motives behind the "AGAAAIN!") We asked the police officers what was going on, and got the usual answer: "This place is a crime scene!"

We don't hold any confirmed version of facts yet, because, for now, it hasn't been published in the news. I'm dying to know what happened! Has something like this ever happened in your town/city?

The light part of the post is, however, about to come. I took some photos when I arrived home (that's why my hairdo and makeup are a real mess on those) to share the night outfit with you. Hope you enjoy it...

new to my collection
(bought @ Spitalfields Market)
ARE THESE LOVELY OR WHAT?

cameo earrings
(My grandmother had a fantastic collection of cameo acessories. While growing up I got used to seeing her wear those proudly when she went for tea with her friends  - that might explain my addiction to these.)

(Love it! I think it'll look absolutely amazing with a simple LBD. Keep it simple!:)

And it definitely reminds me of the jaguar ring from the 2007 Cartier collection, by the french jeweler Inde Mystérieuse.)

Suggestion: If you're vintage addicted and are considering a visit to London, you MUST go to the Notting Hill Market held on Saturdays and check the gorgeous vintage earrings you can buy there. Lovely!

it took me a while since...

...I felt like being at home again.

BEFORE:
Once, a few days after arriving to London, the lady at the supermarket cash till asked me if I needed a plastic bag and I spontaneously said: "Siii...!" (I was about to say "Sim", which means "Yes" in Portuguese, but I suddenly stopped and realized how foolish I was acting - I was no longer in Portugal). The lady immediately asked: "Are you Spanish?" ("Si" is Spanish for "Yes"). I can't really explain why, but I felt kind of humiliated, because not only I figured out I wasn't adapted to London by then, but also she thought I WAS SPAAAANIIISH! Yes, I like Spain and Spanish people, but you know, it is almost like being asked "Are you English?" when you're actually Irish.

AFTER:
Yesterday, for the first time since I got here, I went to a Portuguese restaurant and a man who bumped into me, apologized in Portuguese: "Desculpe!" (meaning: "Sorry!"). Unconsciously, I replied "No problem, it's okay!" Only then I realized I was already thinking in English.

The second proof I'm adapting to my London lifestyle is that today, on my way home after work, I found myself watching the drivers in their cars. Suddenly, driving in the left looked absolutely natural to me; it looked so ridiculously natural I started to wonder "Man, how do people do it back in Portugal?" I know, I know, it was really silly of me, but as silly as it could be, it made me feel like I'm finally at home.

ANTES:

Inconscientemente, respondi-lhe em Inglês: "No problem, that's okay!"

weird things happen in London...

London has brought lots of inspiration, fun and culture into my life and the fact is that I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the whole world.

However, strange events happen around here. Really, they do!! If not, can somebody explain me why on earth were these clothes on the tube floor the other day, as if somebody had taken them off in a rush and got out of the train naked?! You should have seen everybody's face with a naughty smile after they pictured the naked man waiting for the next train at Victoria tube station. Weird, but I have to admit it, it was kind of funny after all!

Hope you like it!

Yup, I was one of the Versace for H&M amazed shoppers as well. However, I wasn’t used to having this sort of easy access to the fashion label collections for H&M (I would have to go to Lisbon for an item, i.e., if there were any size 8s left, which wouldn’t happen that often), and now, living in London, I am honestly starting to suspect that half London will come out at night wearing Donatella-labelled clothes. This means that one of these days, I will probably get ready for an exciting Saturday night out, quite proud of the brand new Versace dress I’m wearing, and once I’m out I will have some six girls wearing precisely the same dress. Well, so much for Versace’s exclusivity! But you know what?  I just love the fact that these kind of initiatives are promoting the access to the well-known griffes and fashion in general. It’s a baby step in the direction of a virtual fashion liberalization and I like it. I really like it!

I will leave you with the photos of my two new Versace for H&M dresses. Can’t believe I got just the right size!:)

Bem, so much for Versace's exclusivity!
